Recently, our Senior Partner, Paul Usoro SAN, was discussing with stakeholders in the telecoms industry, on “Optimising Telecoms Infrastructure in Nigeria”, in a sensitisation program organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission. He presented a paper titled “Legal Framework for Telecommunications Infrastructure Rollout” at Abuja on 11 July 2018. Our Senior Associate, Sixtus Onuka, subsequently presented the paper on his behalf at Ibadan, Benin, Lokoja, and Kano on 22 November, 29 November, 6 December, 13 December, 2018 respectively.
The paper highlights the existing legal framework for telecoms infrastructure rollout in Nigeria, and delves into the challenges of multiple taxation and duplicated legislations, which hinder telecommunications infrastructure rollout. It outlines the roles of stakeholders in resolving these challenges, and also enjoins them to work together towards the actualisation of pervasive telecommunications infrastructure rollout in Nigeria.
